Before we stand it would be a good idea to do a few simple warm up exercises
The exercises that are usually associated with standing are a tradition in their own right
Warm up number 1
Stand with feet shoulder width apart slightly bend your knees keep your back straight eyes facing forward.
Raise your hands slowly until they are at chest height the palms should face your chest continue lifting your arms turning the palms outwards as they pass your face they should be facing upward with fingers pointing to each other continue to push your arm towards the sky with arms stretched hold this position for 1 second then relax and exhale then put your arms down this is on cycle repeat this eight times. Do this gently and smoothly.
Warm up number 2
Stand with feet shoulder width apart slightly bend your knees keep your back straight eye facing forward.
Raise your hands to chest height and form a circle with your arms with you fingers pointing towards each other imagine that you have a bow string in your right hand and the bow in the left hand palm open and fingers facing up, turn your head to the left and aim your bow towards an imaginary target gently pull the string with your right hand to to right shoulder and push the bow towards the target at the same time relax after fully extending your left hand return both hands in a circle to the starting point repeat this on the opposite side (to the right) this cycle should be done eight times as shown in video below
Warm up number 3
Stand with feet shoulder width apart hands on hips and rotate your hips eight times one way then eight times the other way as in video below
Warm up number 4
stand with with feet shoulder width apart back straight knees slightly bent and eyes facing forwards, gently clench your fists around your thumbs. rest your fists on your hips and starting with either fist slowly extend your fist to chest height repeat 4 times with either fist. Watch video below
Warm up number 5
put your legs together bend your knees and slowly a gently rotate your knees, eight times to the left and then eight times to the right as shown in video below
Warm up number 6
Stand with feet together back straight arms by your side, circle both arms up in front of you until they reach your eye line, from there continue to move your arms up above your head, lean back and look through your hands up towards the sky continue to circle your arms down and at the same time lean forwards hold this position for a few seconds and then stand up in the starting position. Repeat this exercise from eight times up to twenty times, or more if you wish. Watch video below.
